"When I was born, the doctors told me I had 6 weeks to live. I'm 42 now, so the way I see it, every day is like a-- a bonus."

I miss playing in the cement tubes at the end of the block with Shannon and Sonja, I miss making up circus routines. I miss doing Burns's homework with Alaina, I miss digging holes with Kirsten, I miss Karimi's pilot class, I miss Becky Alper. I miss making a "List Of Things To Do:", I miss Hillary and Ned and Erin at daycare, I miss "gotcha last", I miss wanting to be an indian, trying to dive, waterskiing, downhill skiing, roasting s'mores, and sneeking into Bob Nicoletti's fort. I miss fighting over the good Ken, and playing and rewinding The Little Mermaid to memorize "Part of Your World". I miss Ding Jia and Ma Ma and the Bissell's on holidays. I miss Portuguese trains and the seagull squaks at Cherbourg harbor. and Switzerland.

Thank god, then, for New Zealand and Scotland, the American Red Cross, the Chinese Language, Scuba Diving and Flying, the Boundary Waters, and Infinity. Life's getting better, and even if it's not, it's just a bonus anyway.
