2003-08-07 -- 10:36 a.m. I don’t think work needs to be fun. Fullfilling, maybe, but definitely not fun. Ed: warehouse work, 3 days a week, unfulfilling, unfun Diana: English teacher, fulfilling? More fun than most, but it’s still just school everyday Mary: Computer Programmer, unfulfilling, unfun Margie: Office job, unfulfilling/unfun Kathy: Runs Business, pretty fulfilling, VERY unfun Linda: Health food store owner (?) fulfilling, maybe somewhat fun, but tedious I’m sure Patty: Hates job, period Joe: Don’t know what he does, come to think of it Tom: …don’t know what he does either! Therese: Accountant, can tolerate her job, but takes no particular interest in what she does. Particular interest…Hmm. Dan: U of M librarian. Satisfied with job because of his curious, inquiring personality Sue: Hospital Secretary, has done it her whole life, I can’t imagine it’s anything more than a routine Steve: Takes care of Grandpa, former photographer, student, hates taking care of grandpa, is merely in this game because of hopes of moving south in the coming future. Bud: Computer Programmer, doesn’t like work, is upset over the fact that his life has only turned out to be this, unfulfilling, unfun Mary D: editor, maybe likes job but does not like the people she works with. Unfun. Ryan: Scholar, just wants to be done with graduate school Christine Whyatt: Violin teacher, likes job, wishes she got paid more, fulfilling, no more or less fun than any other job Now let’s examine people I know who seem to love their job: Professor Nicholson: Univ. Roman Empire professor, fulfilling & fun, loves job, generally happy person That “Adrenaline Rush” Skydiver Person: needless to say, loves job Dr. Bissell: SYA China…coordinator? President? has his good and bad days, but feels extremely lucky to have landed the job he has. Fullfilling, sometimes fun Becky: Subway manager, loves everything about what she’s doing. I don’t know if it’s fun or fulfilling, but she at least loves it. Dr. Burns: Jr. High Science teacher, I’d say he secretly loves his job Alan: Accountant, at least is trying to love his job, is hopeful Leslie Aaserude: Newborn baby nurse, loves job New Category: President Bush: I wonder Brad Pitt: I wonder Mother Teresa: loved job Viktor Kee: Has no reason not to love his job, but really who knows Buskers of Quebec City: Seem to love job, probably hate the pay though And so, my point, my point. What is my point? What do you think of that data? I wonder about the old men in the park who excersize their birds. Is that enough for them? It must be. They all seem very content. Profile
